This is part of a series exploring Luke’s Gospel for the Advent season. One chapter a day for the first 24 days of December. (We’ll see how we go!) I hope you enjoy and that you know God near this season :)

The Mary and Martha story (Luke 10:38-42) could easily be taken as an excuse to avoid the washing up. (I don’t need many of those!)
There is a lot to learn from this story. To me the main word that sticks out is priority.
What’s a priority in our lives? Are we so caught up in the daily grind that we forget to acknowledge Jesus in it?
Brother Lawrence was a monk in France. His book The Practice of the Presence of God takes this idea to an art form.
The Lord is with us, even when we are doing the washing up. I think a key lesson for us to learn from the Mary and Martha story is not to miss Him.
Mary prioritised Jesus by sitting at His feet and hearing what He said, His "word" (Luke 10:39). If we are listening to Him in our daily lives, what impact might that have on us? How might our Decembers (and Januaries to Novembers) look and feel different if we did so?
”Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.“ (emphasis added)
