Picking my way through forest paths,
I wander down the beaten track.
Off it, though, that’s where the treasure
Lies! Thunderous skies apart from shame
The chagrin spoken of my name
Bereft of meaning for a while (I climb,
Abandoned, up a stile and down
The other side.
Would that I had recognised
The sweetness where it lay, or held
My hand aloft in praise while bellowed
Chorus struck a tune
Of distant agony.
The world’s in pain, and I must go
Where it has never fared.
The words in which I went have
No power o’er me now. I’ve given
All my powers away, save that which holds
The sway with Him Who owns my heart and
Life. The bitter pangs of strife are felt
No more by my collusion. I’ll shatter
Their illusion by no more a show of power
But of love.
Love conquers; all the day.
